Yes. WebP supports full alpha transparency including semi-transparent pixels. Logos and icons with transparent backgrounds in SVG convert to WebP with transparency preserved perfectly.
WebP is better for web performance — same transparency support with 25–35% smaller files. Use WebP for website delivery. Keep PNG as a fallback for older browsers or software that does not support WebP.
At the pixel level yes — the WebP renders the SVG at the specified dimensions with full detail. However, unlike SVG, WebP is a fixed-resolution raster image and will pixelate if displayed larger than its pixel dimensions. Always rasterize at the largest size you need.
Our converter rasterizes the static rendering of your SVG. Animated SVGs are converted to a static WebP of the SVG's initial state. The animation is not preserved.
Modern browsers accept PNG and SVG for favicons declared in the HTML. WebP favicon support is inconsistent. For favicons, use SVG directly (best) or PNG (most compatible). ICO format is still recommended for the legacy favicon.ico file.
